Psychological Landmarks

“If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to.” ~Zen Proverb

If change is inevitable, how come we create stress and anxiety from it? We like to hold on what’s familiar to us. Familiarity is unthreatening because we know where everything is, we have psychological landmarks everywhere. But if we take away some our psychological landmarks, then we will feel disconnected from our world that we created. Our landmarks were something to hold on to for us to get through our day. Landmarks are reminders that everything is normal and somewhat predictable. But if we just gradually accept and let go and say goodbye to some of our psychological landmarks, then we can rely more  on our inner self or our inner resources to help us to create new landmarks that are new and refreshing and more welcoming.
