Creating A Climate For Better Learning

For growth to occur, a setting has to be right. A climate is necessary if we want to learn something important. We can’t have a television on while learning something complex. If we have fewer distractions, we can grasp new ideas quickly. For us to learn, concentration is important.  A good night sleep can help our memory. Exercising can help with better circulation and lower stress which can support better learning skills.

When It’s Too Good To Be True

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Car Review

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

When it’s too good to be true, then it is too good to be true. How come we sometimes ignore our inner voice that warns us about something?   What makes a crafty salesperson is that they look for what we think is important to us. For example, if we are the type of person who like fast a car, the salesperson would focus on how the shape of the body of the car is made to help drive top speeds. If we were the type of person who prefers comfort over speed, then the salesperson would focus on how the shocks in the car easily absorbed bumps, or on how nice it would be during chilly morning day to sit on a heated car seat. Sometimes, we enjoy the rush we get from the experience of enjoying the color of the car, the new car smell and the touch of a brand new stirring wheel.  And by the end of the sales pitch, we are ready to buy a car without reconsidering other alternatives.

Being Spontaneous

Glass of Water

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Being spontaneous is about freely expressing ourselves without external forces. We do something naturally without hesitation. Sometimes it’s nice to do something spontaneous rather than planned. Planning something requires thinking while doing something that comes natural is spontaneous. A spontaneous behavior is more honest and unconscious while deliberate  behavior is done consciously. Being spontaneous is an element of freedom in that we feel no restriction in our behavior. The conscious mind interferes with natural order of things. We sleep when we’re sleepy; we eat when we’re hungry.

Finding Your Labor Of Love

Bowl of Fruit

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We won’t know what we can do, if we don’t try. How can we find what we’re good at, if we don’t try? Some of us won’t try because we have a fear of the unknown. Fear can be use as an excuse for not knowing what we’re capable of doing. Even when we have the potential or the genes for it, we still need to work on it, to develop it and to mold it. If we were to ask ourselves what things that are holding us back, it would be commitment, time and labor; these are the ingredients for success if we want to make things happen. If we are willing to make the sacrifice and put in the effort, then the possibility is greater to see the fruit of our labor.

Let Go

Sometimes we need to let go of the past, if we want to move forward. Holding on to the past only slows us down. When we let go, we are free; it’s a choice we can make. If we’re constantly thinking about what’s hurting our ego, then it’s time to let go. We don’t have to collect emotional debts anymore; we can be free. Sometimes we make our identity our emotional debts in that we forget what’s more important. Instead, we can find our lives meaningful, if we focus our attention on what we can do for others

Knowledge Is A Treasure

“Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key to it.” ~Lao Tzu

If only we apply half of the knowledge we acquire, we would know what works and what doesn’t work. We get some much information about everything that it is difficult to sort through it all. When we practice doing something that requires knowledge, our learning becomes real and we understand the subject better. But knowledge is abstract, if it’s not used. The treasure is in the understanding through the use of knowledge. We get a deeper understanding of things when we use it. The knowledge usually sticks when we apply to something that will help us.

Paradise Called Life

Make up your mind to rejoice in this paradise called life. ~ Lao Tzu

Life is sacred. The fact that we’re alive and breathing makes life worthwhile. Life is educational. We will always learn something. Life is like a sunny day smiling back at us. It’s nice to feel the warmth of the sun on our face. Life is where experiences happen. Rejoicing life comes in many forms. Taking an early morning stroll is one way of rejoicing life and reading a favorite book is another way. Celebrating life is about expressing freely who we are as a person.

A Patient Listener

Listen

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all have our own opinions about things. Some of us are more opinionated than others and some of us are quick to make our opinions known. Everyone has a right to his or her opinions, which in turn means we must respect everyone’s opinion. We don’t have to agree with someone else’s opinion.  Patience is required of us when listening to something we don’t agree with. The listener, who is patiently listening, has gain some respect from the other person who’s making his or her case. This person, who is making his or her case, has gains a certain amount of respect as well.

The Interconnections of Life

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

You are not separate from the whole. You are one with the sun, the earth, the air. You don’t have a life. You are life. ~ Eckhart Tolle

Sometimes we find ourselves feeling separate from everything, when in truth, we are somehow connected. When we feel alone in the world is because we don’t look for the connections. Without the sun, the earth, and the air we wouldn’t be here. The earth is where we were born and where we will die and is buried. Without the sun, there would be no opportunity for life to flourish. The air we breathe nourishes every cell in our body. We’re the extension of everything what we call life. We are the walking, the moving, and the thinking of life. We embody life and life embodies us; there is no separation but interconnections.

To Be Complete

every thorn has its rose :)

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We don’t need to have what others have to be complete. We’re already complete as we are; we just have to find that out for ourselves. We can only be our best from moment to moment.  Some of us are more comfortable with ourselves than are others. Each one of us brings a unique perspective to the world, because each one of us is uniquely different in every way. We don’t have to look for something external to feel complete but we can look within. Each one of us has deficiencies that we hide that we don’t want other to know. Nonetheless, our deficiencies are only a part of us but not all of us. To be complete, we must accept the deficiencies as a part of us.

Meanings We Cherish

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Meaning is very important in our life. We cherish our memories because they’re meaningful to us. We can look back and reflect on past events in our lives that make us happy. Our experiences create memorable meanings. We don’t have to look for what’s meaningful. After we experience a memorable occasion our brains stores it and uploads it later so our conscious mind can relive it. It’s like an old song we haven’t heard in many years that has triggered a past memory. That past memory evokes images and feelings that we haven’t seen or felt in a long time.

When It’s Time for Discipline

Climbing Up...
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

It is time for discipline when we’re too tired to go on. It is time for discipline when we don’t have time to spare. It is time for discipline when emotions and feelings are controlling us. It is time for discipline when our rigid ideas are keeping us away from what we wish to do. It is time for discipline when we began to doubt our self and ability. It is time for discipline when we begin to feel uncertainty. It is time for discipline when we’re disorganized and undisciplined. Discipline helps us move on in spite of life’s difficulties. We need discipline in our lives to keep us together in time of need.

Procrastinating Our Time

It is easier to focus on how much time we have left to start a new project than to focus on completing a project.  This is just another way of procrastinating, by focusing our attention on the amount of time we have remaining, instead of working on the task itself.  When we are focusing on the task itself, we are no longer distracted. It’s hard to be pulled away from the work when we are concentrating and focusing on the task. Actually working on a task is real and specific rather than something that is abstract like time; we can’t pick up or touch. Therefore, it is easier to dismiss our time we have while it is harder to confront the reality of a task, because doing something new always requires time and patience.

Expectation

Birds in the sky

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Expectation is a belief that something will happen. If we expect failure then we will in our power fail. But if we expect to succeed, then we will in our power succeed. We have a lot of power we don’t know about or forgot about. We can just reach in our reserves and use the energy toward success. We will make mistakes. Part of the learning process is making mistakes.  We expect a bird to fly. Expecting success is really about believing in our abilities in spite of fear. Expectation evokes feeling of encouragement in us. We’re encouraged to go for it and to know that we can have the confidence to plow through to make it.

Make It Happen

HOPE
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We determine whether something will be a blessing or a curse by the way we choose to see it. ~ Kate Nowak

If we choose to see something as a curse, then we can choose to see it as a blessing. Some of us don’t think we have a choice in the matter to change the way we see things, because we believe the way we see something is our reality. Each of us sees things through our personality, but we still have a choice. If we see a situation hopeless, then we will see that it is. If we see a hopeless situation that has potential to turn around things into something positive, then we will find a way to make it happen.

When Respect is Lost

Laguna Verde, Bolivia
Post Written by Eugene Morgan

When there is hostility, anxiety, depression, respect is lost. When we respect ourselves our hostility, anxiety and depression decreases. The person who is hostile to another person has lost self-respect. This means the person is off-balance.  All humans have an instinct for self-preservation. In an evolutionary view, we have an old brain and a new brain. The old brain regulates our body systems such as our respiratory system, circulatory system, etc. The old brain is responsible for our moods as well.  The new brain is our cerebral cortex which is responsible for reasoning, decision-making and planning.

Since the old brain is responsible for regulating our body systems, it has to keep the systems in balance. For example, if our body is low in sugar, then the old brain will tell the body to find a way to balance the sugar level. We all experienced walking up a flight of steps finding ourselves breathing so hard to catch our breath. This is because the old part of brain has to tell the body that it needs more oxygen to the lungs and the heart has to beat faster to pump more blood for us to walk a flight of steps. Our species has survived for many thousands of years, because of the old brain.

Most people would get upset if they found a scratch on their newly bought car, or if someone slams a phone down in someone’s ear.  When we get this hostile is because we are off-balance. The old brain is trying to compensate for the lack of respect. If we understanding this about ourselves, then our hostility will decrease while our respect increases.

The Internal Mind

Meditation
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

It would be nice when we sit down and close our eyes and not think.  If we don’t pay attention to the thoughts that runs through our minds, we would be better off. We don’t have to entertain a negative thought. Our attention can focus on nothingness of our experience. It’s our being center is important to the mind. Our mind can’t rest when there are constant distractions. Our mind needs to focus for it to rest. When we close our eyes, we lose some external reality; this helps us to go deeper into an internal state. When we rid our minds of distractions we can see things clearer than before.

Curiosity is Wonderful

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Curiosity is our way of learning something we don’t know about but want to know.  We have all experienced as children receiving a surprise toy we were delighted to have. But when the novelty wore off, we no longer had any use for it, because we had done everything with it and bored with it. So we broke opened the toy to find out how it worked. When we opened it, we saw all its components that we really don’t know about. When we attempt to put everything back together, the toy was not quite the same after it was turned on. So we dropped it looking for another thing to play with.

Don’t Give Up

Hopeless
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Why do some of us give up on things before we even get started? Belief controls our behaviors. If we have the belief that we can’t do it, then our body will follow and demonstrate that in our behaviors. This belief can take on different forms such as avoidance , procrastination and doubt. As long as we avoid doing what it takes to succeed, then we are guaranteed to fail. As long as we push back our time, we won’t have any time left but regrets. As long as we doubt ourselves and abilities, then we won’t even try. We think that everything has to be perfect before we start. But mistakes are our feedback on what to do and what not to do. We don’t have to give up just because we made a mistake. We just have to make the mistake fast so we can move on.

But We Can Change Our Future

Five Past Eleven

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

There is nothing we can do about our past, but we can change our future. If we don’t like the way our life is going, then we can start making a change now. We don’t have to wait for change to come, instead we can make the initiative to change things now. Now is the best time to start a change, because if we start to change things tomorrow, tomorrow may turn into weeks, weeks may turn into months, months may turn into one year, one year may turn into two years, and so on. Two years could have been enough time do what’s needed to alter our future. The decisions we make now will influence our future.   If we want to alter our future, then we must start meeting our goals we set for ourselves today.
