Take A Look In The Mirror

Mirror

Post Written Eugene Morgan

“If you’re still looking for that one person who will change your life, take a look in the mirror.” — Roman Price

We can’t wait for change to occur because we’re the only person who can make a change. The person that’s looking back at us in the mirror is the person who knows what we want in our lives. Although our path will seem foggy at first, we can look back and see a clearer path. There is no freedom and power when we’re waiting for someone else to change our lives. We shouldn’t allow someone else to make the changes for us especially when we have our own dreams we want to fulfill on our own terms.

Freedom of the Mind

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“I know but one freedom and that is the freedom of the mind.”— Antoine de Saint-Exupery

When we’re given the opportunity to inform or educate ourselves, we’re given ourselves the opportunity to be freer. We no longer have to be kept in the dark instead, we can reeducate ourselves when we have a lack of understanding about something. It is our minds that instructs our feet  to either go left, right or go straight ahead. We all have experienced being stuck. For us to get unstuck we have to experience something that will reorient our view on things so we can let go of our tethers. When we begin to let go of the tether in our minds, we begin to see more opportunities. We begin to see things we haven’t seen before that was always there.  The blinders have been lifted for our minds’ eyes to see.

Accept the Present Moment

a frivolous moment
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it.” ― Eckhart Tolle

We all want to be and to feel independent or feel free. It’s seem if we claim to choose the moment that is presented to us, then we feel freedom or feel more in control of the situation. If we make the situation our own, then we gain power. This is not about controlling someone else behavior. This is about taking advantage of the power we have already. If we deny the present moment, we’re giving up our power. If we have a chance and opportunity to fulfill our dreams, but don’t seize the opportunity, then we lose that moment to choose freedom.

When Hard Work Rewards

farm work

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds you plant. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Working hard is not an easy thing to do but it is the most rewarding thing. It is the most rewarding thing because of the amount of time, effort and focus we put into it.  There is a sense of freedom when we work hard for ourselves. Working hard is the driving force that moves mountains. If things were always given to us, life wouldn’t be as rewarding. We gain a certain amount of self-respect when we put our whole self into our work.

No Joy Like Freedom

No Longer a Prisoner (For I am Free!)
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We can’t know freedom unless we have experienced restraint and then was released from it. Some of us don’t realized how free we’re really are.

If we have internal restrictions, then we can’t express being and feeling free. Freedom requires responsibility. As long as we aren’t breaking any rules that are harmful and hurtful to others and us, then it’s all right to express our freedoms.

Joy is the result of our freedom.  An inner joy is an expression of our outer freedoms. We live to be free but responsible. There is no joy in restricting our thinking. A closed mind is not a joyous mind, but an open mind keeps the joy pouring through.

Create Your Own Freedom

Freedom
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We ultimately have to choose what direction we want to go in our lives. If we dislike our present situation we’re in, then it is up to us to change our situation.

We have to rely on ourselves to make choices. Sometimes we don’t see that we have choices. When we feel we don’t have choices, we feel like a prisoner in our situation.

We are free when we realize that we have choices. No one can take our choices away unless we let them. No one can create our freedom because we know what best for ourselves.

Freedom will always be linked with responsibility. Responsibility will always be linked with power. When we’re free to be ourselves, then we have power and the responsibility to do for ourselves.

Experiencing The New

freedom ... !
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Experiencing something new is the best way to make a change. Some things are unchanging unless we experience something that will help us change.

To experience something means actually doing something. An experience can help expand our minds so we can see that there are more choices available.

When we have more choices we have more freedom to be more of ourselves. Milton Erickson wants us to discover more about our potentials and ourselves.

He wants our minds to concentrate on the vast store of experiences that we all have and learn to use them when in need and/or desire to free ourselves from the rigid ideas.

Positive Reinforcement Evokes Motivation

Undulating path, Bingley
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all need positive reinforcement to get us to do something. Encouragement reinforces motivation. Encouragement evokes the feeling of motivation to do something.

We all need a push every once in a while to get us going. Just a push is all we need to get into gear. Some of us, once we get going, can’t stop, or don’t want to stop.

And some of us are by nature self-motivating. Self-determining can be edifying and liberating because we aren’t bound by duty, we are free to do what we want within the boundaries and limitations.

Once we know the boundaries and limitations, then we can pursue our path.

Be You, Not Me

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

One thing is true is that we can never be original when we continue to imitate someone. Each one of us is unique; therefore, it’s all right to find our own voice.

And it’s all right to find our own style. It’s all right to admire someone. What we are admiring is the person’s originality and uniqueness.

It’s all right being you.  It’s all right being me. This is where acceptance comes in to play. Self-acceptance encourages us to grow into what we should become. It’s feels right and natural when we become who we suppose to be.

Others like us not because of what things we do, but because of who we are as people.  What we do is a product of who we are.

You Have The Power Within To Follow Your Own Path

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Our internal resource is our power to move things in our lives; resources that we have acquired over our lives through our experiences.

As long as we’re learning new experiences, we’re accumulating our power. The problem for most of us is learning to get access to our resources to help us to succeed in life.

Our limited frames of reference, our biases and our limitations tend to get in the way. These are the challenges that we have to contend with thus freeing some of these things so we can use what we already have within.

We tend to give our power away when we don’t follow our own path in life.  The power within us can free us from our biases, only if we open our minds up for new ideas and follow our own path.

Can Adults Learn From Children?

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

What can we learn from children? A child likes to explore freely without limits. A child is not afraid to make a mistake when learning something new.

A child enjoys learning new things while playing. A child looks at things from a different view than an adult. Everything a child sees is from a clean slate.

Everything a child explores is new.  A child enjoys listening to stories. A child enjoys touching everything with his or her hands which includes tasting everything else.

A child can do anything, as long there’s a parent present to keep the child safe. Exploration and experience is a reoccurring theme that we can learn from a child. Scientists, archeologists, anthropologists, researchers are really children in grown up bodies.

Doing Our Own Thinking

Thinking RFID
Written by Eugene Morgan

It’s an internal process and a powerful experience, when we’re doing our own thinking. There is a feeling of freedom when listening to our own thoughts.  Erickson encourages his subjects to do their own thinking.  He gives them permission to deliberately think about their own thoughts.

From time to time, it’s all right to ask for advise on something.  But, after thinking it over, we still have to make the final decision and live with it. When doing our own thinking, we’re asking ourselves what do we think about this or about that situation.  Also, doing our own thinking is a private matter, therefore privacy gives us a sort of comfort without judgment in listening to what we’re really thinking.

Make A Detour In Life

“It is the experience of reassociating and reorganizing his own experiential life that eventuates in a cure,” Milton Erickson

We can’t make a change if we’re insisting on thinking of the problem the same way. We need another way of thinking, or a new frame of reference to reorganize our experiential life.

It’s like taking the same route everyday to work never considering that there are alternative routes to get to work. We’re forced to take a detour only if there is problem like a car accident or road repair. However, when we do take a different route, we lose the old associations that are linked to old route to work. Taking a new route can create new associations, new ways of thinking,  and add varieties and new opportunities along the way.

What Greater Joy!

joy
Written by Eugene Morgan

“And what greater joy is there than doing what you want to do?” Milton Erickson

We all want joy in our lives.  When we think back on what made us joyful, we feel a sense of freedom; that we have forgotten about; that’s sometimes lacking in our present lives.  We have an adult way of thinking that restricts us from doing what we want to do as human beings. But we can allow ourselves to do what we want to do— to make us more like human beings, and less like human doings. Human doing is like a machine without feelings and emotions, but as human beings, we can see the colors of the world through our feelings.

Claim Our Independence

2011 4th of July Fireworks
Written by Eugene Morgan

“When one knows the boundaries, restrictions and limitations that governs them he is free to utilize satisfactorily whatever is available.” Milton Erickson

Today is Independence Day.  This is a time to celebrate our Independence, not just with our country but ourselves.  When we started learning how to walk, we were on our way of claiming our independence.  When we started learning how to speak, we were on our way of independence.  When we got our driver’s license, we were on our way of independence. When we graduated from high school we were  on our way of independence.  When we got our first job, we were on our way of independence.  When we turn 18 and then turn 21 years old, we were on our way of independence.  Erickson’s implication in the above quote is that if we don’t know the boundaries, restrictions and limitations that we place on ourselves we won’t believe we have at our disposal the choices to claim our independence.  Apparently, knowing something is about knowledge and knowledge is power.  Therefore, knowing the boundaries and restrictions that governs us is even more powerful; because we are free to use satisfactorily whatever is available within ourselves.
