Loss and Gain with Change

San Diego, CA

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Don’t be afraid of change. You may lose something good, but you may gain something better. —Unknown

Change is a loss and gain at the same time. When we graduate with our class, we move on and gradually lose touch with our friends we’ve developed over the course of fours or more. When we move from one place to another, we leave neighbors that we’ve grew up with. When we switched jobs or change careers, we move ‘what was’ to pursue ‘what will be.’ Everything is constantly on the move. It is something that’s hard to get use to. However, since change is inevitable, we don’t have a choice in the matter. Therefore, we need to be as flexible as can be because we might gain something better.

Another Chance To Change

I'm still running away

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Every new day is another chance to change your life.”— Unknown

When we look back in regret of our past, we are not giving ourselves another chance to change our life. We make ourselves feel powerless when we think we can change our past. The good news is that it is within our power today to change our life and, that we can be grateful when a new day arrives so that we can continue on making positive changes. Milton Erickson once said to a bride and groom that they should leave a trial of happiness…and to look forward in looking back. It is hard to make changes in our lives when we’re looking only at past regrets. However, if we start looking back at what good things we have done with our lives that made us happy, and then we would want to look forward for a new day in doing more of a good thing.

Change Makes Things Move

In the clouds - EXPLORE rules changed

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Change is always inevitable when it come to personal growth. Change makes things move. Change is for the better most of the time. Change can bring clarity if we let it. Change can bring down walls as well as psychological walls. Change is seasonal like the weather. Change is painful but we’re adaptable. Change can take people apart while it can bring people together. Change does not discriminate. Change is pure and destructive. But change builds mountains so we can climb them. Change can help and bring peace to those who want to receive it.

Fall is Around The Corner

Winter memories
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Fall is around the corner. Most kids are back in school. The green leaves are beginning to turn yellow, red and then brown. We’re feeling the Indian summer beginning yesterday. Our favorite new season shows this fall is approaching. Summer is winding down. Others are returning to a last minute summer labor-day vacations.  We’re in our 9th month of this year of 2014. It is still not too late to start that new thing or learn something that we’ve been thinking of doing.  Just as there is transition in seasons as there are in life. We change with the seasons.

Change With Growth

The Phoenix Process

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely.”— Karen Kaiser Clark

We can grow with change or we can resist change. It is better to grow with change than to wait on change to grow.  It is also better to grow so change can occur. It is not the things around us change; it is us that change. So if we want change to occur around us, then we must first make the change. Growth is the sign of change. We all experience growth on different levels. We can choose to grow if we’re willing to make the change. Change is inevitable while growth is a choice.

Create Change

“If you don’t create change, change will create you.”— unknown

When change creates us, we don’t have to complain that we have no control over our lives. But instead we ought to invite some of those changes when they are not made by us that are useful.  Most changes are an opportunity for self-improvement. If the external changes are leading to where we don’t want to go, then it is time to create changes for ourselves. But if the external changes are leading to where we want to go, then we should go along with it. When we create the changes in our lives, we are taking control of our lives.

Welcome Change

Springing Buds

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“You must welcome change as the rule but not your ruler.”—

Change requires energy. If we are constantly changing, we won’t be able to keep up. We will experience disorientation. We won’t know where to start and where to end.  We shouldn’t change for change’s sake. We should have a good reason and a purpose to change. When we make a change in our lives, it is a serious decision to make, because the change we make in our lives will effect not only ourselves, but also others around us. Change is made for the purpose of making things better in the long run.

It Is Our Choice, Fight or Flight

Inca Terns at Living coasts

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We do one of two things; we either fight or flight, when it comes to self-preservation. When we have self-doubts and/or trepidations, and, when it comes to making a change in our lives, we can either choose fight or flight. If our choice is flight for our self-preservation, we will obsess and/or catastrophize about it. However, change can be motivating when we fight for our self-preservation. When it comes to fight, we are forced to make choices and forced to be specific on the task and more than willing to complete the necessary tasks. In other words, when we know the consequences are near, we have no choice but to take actions to change things around in our life.

Sometimes It Rains And Sometimes It Doesn’t

rain

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Life is much better if sometimes it rains and sometimes it doesn’t.” ~ Milton Erickson

If we get sunshine everyday, we won’t appreciate the sun. If everything we do comes easy, we will never feel a satisfaction of doing hard work. Just as there are constant changes in the weather, there are changes in our lives. We want things to go smoothly every time. But there will always be delays, distractions and challenges for us to go through. This is part of life. For us to appreciate sunny days, it must rain. For us to appreciate our health, sometimes we catch a cold.  Life is not all negatives or all positives, but life has both negatives and positives. The negative experiences help us to grow while the positive experiences help us to experience and appreciate the joys of life in a meaningful way.

When Change Is Needed

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Change is needed when we don’t have a purpose. Change is needed when we don’t have any direction. Change is needed when we don’t have a plan. Change is needed when we don’t change our approach. Change is needed with when we’re sick and tired of being sick and tired. Change is needed when we’re bore with our lives. Change is needed when we blame others for our misfortune. Change is needed when we sit idle without a goal to shoot for. Change is needed when we no longer have meaning in our life. Change is needed when we think the other person should change. Change is needed if we do more of the same without a positive outcome.

Small Easy Tasks

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes we get so frustrated with ourselves when we want to make a change but don’t follow through.  When it comes to change, following through is the hardest part because of the belief in our minds that we can’t do it or it’s too difficult or I’m too tired or I don’t have time. It is these beliefs are what stop us from going through with the change in our life. For change to happen certain tasks are require of us to do. If we break down the task in small easy tasks, then they can be a lot easier to carry out.

Change Takes Time and Work

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Change takes time and hard work. Sometimes we want change to occur immediately. And we get impatient with ourselves when we see that change is harder than we think. We need to be patient with ourselves when we do slack or procrastinate. We needn’t get so hard on ourselves. But allow ourselves time to get used to the process of change. Change requires us to think differently than we did before. Change replaces the old behaviors with new behavior within the process of change. Struggling is okay as long as we continue to struggle for change. Sometimes fear and even doubt can be a motivating factor for changes to occur. Sometimes it is harder to make a change because we have net under us to catch us. So let us feel a little discomfort and take courage for change.

Vote Today

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We have the power to vote. It is more than a privilege to vote, it’s our right and our duty. If we want to be a part of change, then we ought to vote. We vote only once every four years. We make our voices heard when we vote. Today is one of the greatest opportunities we can do for our country is to vote. We don’t have to hope for change to occur, we can be part of change by voting.  We don’t have to lose our chances to vote. Voting is a reflection of change we want for our families and ourselves. We will feel proud as a citizen of the United States, if we vote.

Over the years we have accumulated experiences. And over the years we have accumulated generalizations about those experiences. Generalizations can be helpful and they can be harmful. Generalizations are our filters we look through to make sense out of the world. But some of our generalizations can skew our perceptions on how we see things. Change can be difficult if we have certain generalizations that hinder us from making the effort to change. This means we have to change our generalizations if we want to make change easier. Change doesn’t have to be a difficult prospect. The difficulty of change is not letting go of old generalizations, which are stopping us from doing what is necessary for change to take place.

But We Can Change Our Future

Five Past Eleven

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

There is nothing we can do about our past, but we can change our future. If we don’t like the way our life is going, then we can start making a change now. We don’t have to wait for change to come, instead we can make the initiative to change things now. Now is the best time to start a change, because if we start to change things tomorrow, tomorrow may turn into weeks, weeks may turn into months, months may turn into one year, one year may turn into two years, and so on. Two years could have been enough time do what’s needed to alter our future. The decisions we make now will influence our future.   If we want to alter our future, then we must start meeting our goals we set for ourselves today.

Accepting the Seasons Of Change

Summer time (Algarve)
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to.” ~Zen Proverb

If it was up to us, we would like the world to be more predictable and unchanging. We love structure and familiarity in our lives, however, as we all know that change happens and it is inevitable. Change is constant, but, what is predictable is the changing of seasons. We know when the summer days arrive, we know when the fall days arrive, and we know when the winter and the spring days arrive.  Adjusting to each season is a must if we want to survive. During the hot summer days we must keep cool and stay hydrated. During the winter months we must keep warm to keep our temperature up.  So adjusting to change is good.

When Changes Keep Us Off Balance

Balancing Stones
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Changes can keep us off-balance if we don’t learn to readjust.  If I happened to break my right wrist which is my dominate hand. I would have to learn how to write with my left hand which is my non-dominate hand. My many years of writing with my right will now have to be applied to my left where there is little to no experience writing. If I want to write for that matter I must readjust my behavior. It will be a difficult prospect at first but eventually by the time the cast is off of the right hand I will be ambidextrous.

Attitude Changes Things

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

It is necessary to make a change in our attitude or to adopt a new frame of reference if we want a change to occur. If we’re in the same place we were last year, then we must consider changing our attitude.

If we dislike the situation we put ourselves in, then we got to redirect our energies toward something else that will bring in new meanings in our lives. Laminating on what we dislike in a situation will not get us out of the situation.

This is a waste of time and energy. Instead we can focus our attention on what we’re going to do about it. That means coming up with a plan and executing it; this is a call action plan.

Some things we don’t have control over. But we do have control over what we do and what we decide to do if we want to affect change in our attitude.

When Resistance is winning

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We can get frustrated at times, when we’re resisted to new changes; changes that we want in our life. At our work places, change is inevitable, although we express resistance a little, we do eventually readjust our behavior to the changes.

One motivating factor is that we want to keep our jobs. It is easier to resist changes in ourselves than at our employment because we don’t link consequences to the change. Consequence is one way to motivate a change.

It is good to find a reason why we want to make a change. How does the change be beneficial in the long run? Is making a certain change in our lives realistic? These are start-up questions to get us thinking about change when we can ask ourselves before we venture to make changes.

Giving us a date to start and a date to end the process if it’s something involving completing a project, can be useful.

Going Beyond Barriers

Christine Merrill
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all have barriers that restrain us from doing what we want to do. Fear of failure, the unknown, lack of information, not willing to learn, time, lack of support, to name a few, could be described as barriers that obstruct us from doing what we want to do.

But these barriers are distracters. They take our attentions away from what is important— action! Action is the key ingredient to making things happen in our lives.

Whatever action we do can affect change. Actions are the accumulated results of progress. Our actions can go beyond our barriers. When we’re in action our attention is in the now. The actions we take on now and everyday will pay off in our future.

As a result of our actions we would have accumulated not only progress, but also the experiences. Experiences are a great resource to rely on when we need them.
