Create A Life Worth Living

“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald

Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.  — William James

If we believe that life is worth living, then we look for things that will help us live a worthy life.  We will create a life worth living because we have self-worth. Somebody believes in us, and therefore, we believe in ourselves.  We have something to contribute that makes us worthy. No one is better than another person. It is hard for someone to have self-worth when they have lost everything, like there family, friends, house, etc. For us to still have these things, we can help those who have fallen if they want it. We can only guide and be a light to help them along the way to their own path.  Once upon a time, we needed help and was thankful that someone cared whether it was emotionally or physically.

When The Mind Is Opened

Chichen Itza, Mexico

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief. — Gerry Spence

Beliefs can constrain the mind at times. Wonder allows our mind to briefly let go of our beliefs to see beyond. Wonder creates within us new associations that can be reintegrated into our belief system. In fact, this new associations expands our belief system into another level of maturity and flexibility. We must adjust to the times. Our beliefs don’t have to be compromised for the sake of making new adjustments. We make new adjustments for the sake of not compromising our beliefs. However, some beliefs keep a mind closed and have no interest in other things. How can we make life interesting if we don’t wonder about curious things. Learning can also be entertaining if we allow ourselves to wonder freely without hesitation.

Breaking Free From Beliefs and Judgments

freedom ... !

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“Taking responsibility for your beliefs and judgments gives you the power to change them.”— Byron Katie

If we claim ownership to our beliefs and judgments, then we have the opportunity and the power to change them.  We don’t have to feel powerless anymore when the opportunity to change is there. We just have to be willing to learn to enlarge our way of thinking. This doesn’t mean we have to compromise what matters to us. Our goal is to break free our minds to see beyond our beliefs and judgments. When our minds become free then we can be open to new ideas.  New ideas create new associations and new understanding about us.

What’s Stopping You?

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

What ever we’re doing or not doing is all based on a belief system. It is no coincident that our actions are based on a belief system that we use everyday. We no longer think about what we need to do next because most of our actions are made unconsciously. But when we first learn something new our actions were made consciously and deliberately. We may now wonder why we struggle to obtain our goals or procrastinate at the last minute to start doing what we set out to do couple months earlier. In order words, what is stopping us from obtaining our goals? What are the beliefs that we’re saying to ourselves is somehow stopping us from doing what we want for our lives? These are questions that we ask ourselves.

Doubt and Beliefs

Which Came First, The Chicken or The Egg?
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Just like the chicken or the egg, what came first— doubt or belief about what we can’t do? When we have doubts in our abilities we fuel the belief that we can’t do something. If we believe we can’t do this or that, then it becomes true. If we let doubt fill our minds, then there will be no room to see any possibility for achievement.  It is normal to have some doubts but too much of it is distracting. Doubt looks only at our limitations while courage looks only at opportunities to see beyond our limitations. In courage, we can do things in spite of our doubts; that’s what builds confidence. We don’t have to keep from doing something, when we don’t really know if we can. Why not we find out and are pleased either way.

Small Easy Tasks

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Sometimes we get so frustrated with ourselves when we want to make a change but don’t follow through.  When it comes to change, following through is the hardest part because of the belief in our minds that we can’t do it or it’s too difficult or I’m too tired or I don’t have time. It is these beliefs are what stop us from going through with the change in our life. For change to happen certain tasks are require of us to do. If we break down the task in small easy tasks, then they can be a lot easier to carry out.

Truth and Opinions

“Don’t keep searching for the truth, just let go of your opinions.” ~ Buddha

It is easy to let our opinions create our world and cloud our judgment. We can be quick to label things when we don’t understand them. In so many ways, we’re pushing the truth away from us by our opinions. Opinions are pre-judgments; pre-judgments aren’t interested in the truth. Truth is not something that we will discover in minutes. Truth is a life long discovery. As we journey through life, our opinions change. If we’re opened minded about things, maybe a gain truth will fall our way.

Believe in the Possibilities

day 7: Possibilities
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

If we don’t believe in what’s possible, then we don’t have a clear picture in what’s possible. Knowing what’s possible is really looking back at our experiences. In our experiences, we can see that we have made accomplishes and have achieved successes.

Looking back at our experiences are our resources to help us to look into the future in what we could do that’s possible. This exercise is useful because when fears, doubts, and excuses are keeping us from doing what we want to do in our lives, we can always look at what we have done in our pasts that can helps us through them.

If we believe in the impossibility, then our minds are closed. A closed mind doesn’t consider or wonder what’s possible even when we see clearly what’s possible for someone else. We don’t want to believe it to be possible for ourselves because it seems so foreign to us.

If we imagine ourselves outside looking in only seeing the other person doing what’s possible, then it would feel foreign to us to consider doing it ourselves. But if we paint a picture of ourselves doing what we believe is possible, then we will have better grip on the new situation.

Sooner is better than Later

Gotta get organized
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

“I wish I had done it sooner.” It’s a very common response after doing something that we’ve been prolonging to do.

This tells us a lot about a belief. The main reason we prolong to do something because of what our beliefs or fears say to us.

In spite of our limited beliefs and fears, we still have a choice. The limited beliefs or fears never take away our choices. But the beliefs and fears just make it harder to choose.

Making excuses is another distraction that prolongs what we want to do or choose to do in our lives.

Once the decision is made, we can start working on what we wish to do in our lives. Then, we begin to experience freedom which we didn’t know we had.

We’re no longer prisoners of our fears and limiting beliefs. The realization hits us that we had the choice to do it all along.

When We Believe in Limited Beliefs

Shooting tethered.
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

When we live with limited beliefs, we rob ourselves of the opportunity to see how far we can go in our abilities. If we have a belief that says we can’t do a certain thing, then pursuing it is out of the question.

We have lost the choice to see and do what we want to do. If we have a belief that says we can’t do this or that because it’s too difficult, then we create a resistance to doing it.

However, we can always challenge our limited beliefs. Inner proof is more powerful than someone trying to persuade us that we can do it. We need to test our beliefs ourselves.

Stating the Obvious

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

The way out is through the door. Why is it that no one will use this exit? —CONFUCIUS

This above quote is stating the obvious. What is it that keeps us from seeing the obvious when it comes to solving a problem or finding a solution?

Once we see that the problem is solvable, it’s hard to go back to the original thinking. The solution is clear to us. We have dropped our assumption we had about the problem, thus in hindsight the solution seem so obvious.

We know that assumptions are beliefs we hold true without testing it. Our assumptions like to feed on our doubts. Assumptions are like having blinders on; we cannot see beyond them.

We can only see darkness, but if we take them off, then we can see clearly everything.

You Have The Power Within To Follow Your Own Path

Post Written By Eugene Morgan

Our internal resource is our power to move things in our lives; resources that we have acquired over our lives through our experiences.

As long as we’re learning new experiences, we’re accumulating our power. The problem for most of us is learning to get access to our resources to help us to succeed in life.

Our limited frames of reference, our biases and our limitations tend to get in the way. These are the challenges that we have to contend with thus freeing some of these things so we can use what we already have within.

We tend to give our power away when we don’t follow our own path in life.  The power within us can free us from our biases, only if we open our minds up for new ideas and follow our own path.

The Sun is Out; Challenging Assumptions

Mercury in second transit contact, is entirely inside the Sun, moving further inward
Post Written By Eugene Morgan

We all make assumptions that aren’t true. There are assumptions that are even in our language, for instance, most of us would say, “The sun is out or the sun is going down.”

Even though, we know that the earth rotates and orbits around the sun.  Therefore, the sun isn’t moving up or going down, it’s the earth’s rotation that’s causing the illusion of the sun moving up and down.

We don’t normally say I can’t wait for the earth to rotate enough to see the sun or to see the sun set. We base our assumptions on our experiences and our personality and background.

Assumptions ought to be challenged. When we challenge our assumptions, we can see farther than before. Questioning assumptions is one of the most useful techniques that help broadened our minds. Challenging assumptions is a useful skill to get to a better understanding of things.

Proof demands a Verdict

Giant Gavel
Written By Eugene Morgan

Who said we can’t do it? We tell ourselves we can’t do it.  Then we believe we can’t do it; not giving ourselves a chance to see if we can.

We need to test it first, before we can say we can’t do it. We need to honestly test ourselves, instead of masking our excuses as proof that we can’t do things we want to do. But we won’t know until we make an honest effort.

We have beliefs that are really assumptions about what we can or cannot do without proof. Proof is in the pudding. Testing to find out is very important. Sure, we have our limitations. But how do we know our limitations without testing them?

Breaking down Assumptions

O Mundo Mágico de Escher
Written By Eugene Morgan

Breaking down assumptions entails questioning our beliefs.  Sometimes we believe things without checking them out.  When we don’t check things out, we keep ourselves in the dark.  But when we do question our beliefs, liberation is upon us. We no longer have to settle for limited beliefs.  Learned beliefs are passed down from one generation to next without question. We are given the answers whether we like it or not.  And we’re not allowed to question what our parents told us.  But as adult we certainly can challenge old beliefs that are out of date in our lives.

Believe You Can

We Believe
Written By Eugene Morgan

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there,” Theodore Roosevelt.

This quote speaks volumes. It is the belief in the self what makes the difference. Believe in self is a powerful motivator. When we believe we can do something, it is about our abilities.

When we believe in our abilities, we take advantage of opportunities that come our way.

So a lot of what we can do, has a lot to do with believing in self.  In other words, half of the time is about believing we can and the other half is about doing the work we’re capable of doing.

We Appraise Things we Learn

“And all of our days we are learning things-learning how to appraise them, how to assess them, how to feel about them.” Milton Erickson

When we watch an event unfold before our eyes, we tend to automatically appraise the event based on our background experiences.  How much value we put into the event depends upon how personal it is.  After it’s been filter through, we know how we feel about the event based on our background experiences. Sometimes our perception gets distorted because our filters are too narrow. Learning to appraise, assess and feel about things really tells something about us. It tells us what are likes or dislikes.  It tells us what’s important to us.  It tells us how we’re feeling.  When we begin learn these things about ourselves, we can expand our perception, if we wish.
